It's A...

girl!
I think we were both afraid to admit how much we wanted that outcome. Not that we wouldn't have been happy with two boys -- I was convinced, from the time we found out Jo was a boy, that that's what we'd have -- but it's exciting to think we'll have a daughter.

I've come to think of myself as a "boy mom." Even though I originally couldn't imagine having a son, now having a daughter will take some getting used to.

I also think that Bobbie's profile looks like my sister. If the pictures look decent once they're scanned, I'll post them. The pix we got from my two almost-nuchals are fuzzy and nowhere near as good as all the shots we have of Jo, which is possibly due to my excess padding. Oh, well, hopefully she'll photograph well on the outside.

Also likely as a result of my extra padding, I actually have to go back for more scanning because, during the Level II/anatomy scan (that revealed the girl parts) the doctor couldn't see the heart properly. He sent me downstairs to the pediatric cardiologist, who poked around for a while and then invited me back in a week and a half. Fortunately, my midwife warned me that precisely this scenario might happen, so we're not too worried. Everything the two doctors could see looked perfectly fine.

In other news, Jo climbed out of his crib tonight. Crap. (As Co said, why did we enroll him in that gymnastics class??) Any thoughts on crib tents? Worth it or not?

Congrats on the little girl! I too, have always kindof felt like a "boy mom" funny how that happens... As far as the crib climbing goes, I say- go with it. Make sure his room is totally babyproofed, bite the bullet and toddler bed him. If he knows how to open the doorknobs, then keep him safely contained with a tension gate in his doorway. That method has worked brilliantly for us since Harris was 10 months old! Good luck and let us know what you do!!

It's good to have a girl, because then if your kid turns out to be bloodthirsty and rambunctious (like a certain 4.5 year old who lives with me) you can pat yourself on the back and feel like a successful feminist.

Crib tent all the way, baby. We are just not ready for the alternative. Also, Beck finds it totally amusing so that's a plus.

How exciting!

I do think it's interesting that the mw warned you about about possible problems with the u/s. Nobody's ever said anything like that to me and I think we're about the same size. Maybe because it's distributed differently? I tend toward hourglassedness.

Big crib tent fans here! SO worth it.

So cool! It's so weird, but I really think of you two as "boy moms," like you said, and cannot picture you with a little girl--but it is oh-so exciting, and way easier to shop for! YAY!

Congrats!!!! And I'm with Lynn, toddler bed. Baby proof, gate, door knob cover, latch the closet, etc... but I'd rather worry about them running around in their room and falling asleep in front of the door (found my daughter there many a night in the beginning of the toddler bed phase) than falling out of the crib. Kids don't mind sleeping on the floor. :)
